Three functions, three problems
These are not one event. They are three, and each one breaks differently.
Haldi is bright, messy and outdoors or in a courtyard. Mehendi is slow, seated and detailed. Sangeet is dark, loud and moving.
No single approach covers all three, which is why they are so often the weakest photographs in a wedding set. Haldi needs someone willing to get turmeric on their equipment. Mehendi is hours of stillness with two or three minutes that matter. Sangeet is a low-light performance shot from among the audience.
They also tend to happen at the house rather than a venue, across consecutive days, with the family in the middle of everything else. Being close by is what makes it practical to arrive early to each one and to come back the next morning without the whole thing becoming an expedition.
Photographically this is where the week loosens up. Nobody is posing, the grandparents are involved, and the frames families keep are almost always from these days rather than from the ceremony itself.
Covering three functions across three days is where proximity compounds hardest. Each one has a setup and a pack-down, and the travel between them is dead time that comes out of the coverage rather than out of anyone's schedule.
It also means we can return for something specific. If the mehendi finishes too late to photograph the hands properly, coming back the next morning before the sangeet is a genuine option rather than a theoretical one.
Getting ready
Three functions, three sets of preparation
For haldi, wear something you do not mind ruining and tell your guests to do the same. The best haldi photographs involve people who have stopped worrying about their clothes, and that decision is made before anyone arrives.
For mehendi, allow time at the end for the hands to be photographed properly once the design is finished and before it starts smudging. It is a five-minute window and it is the one detail shot of the whole week.
For sangeet, tell us the running order of any performances. A dance nobody warned us about is a dance photographed from the wrong side of the room, and it cannot be repeated.
Planning it
How we plan a block of functions
We will ask whether the three run on consecutive days or spread out, because consecutive functions are planned as one commission with one set of movements, and spread-out ones are three separate jobs.
We will ask where each happens. Functions clustered near each other on this side of the city are considerably easier to cover well than three venues across Pune with a night between them.
And we will ask which of the three matters most to you. They are rarely equal — most families have one they care about more — and knowing which changes where the effort goes if two of them overlap at the edges.

Can you cover all three functions?
Yes, and it is the usual booking. They run on consecutive days more often than not, so we plan them as a block rather than three separate jobs.
Our haldi is at home in a small courtyard. Is there enough room?
Almost always. Small spaces are normal for haldi and they photograph well — everyone is close together, which is the point of the function.
Sangeet is at night with stage lighting. How do you handle that?
By working with the lighting rather than against it. Stage light is dramatic and using it is what makes the photographs look like the evening actually looked.
Do you photograph the mehendi design itself?
Yes, and it is worth allowing a few minutes for it once the hands are finished and before everything smudges. It is the one part of the day that is genuinely a detail shot.
Which areas do you cover for haldi and mehendi functions?
Homes and halls across Viman Nagar, Wadgaon Sheri, Chandan Nagar, Kharadi, Kalyani Nagar, Lohegaon and Yerawada, and venues along Nagar Road. Consecutive-day functions in one area are far easier to cover well than ones spread across the city.
Can you cover just one of the three?
Yes. Plenty of families book only the haldi or only the sangeet. Tell us which and we will plan it properly rather than treating it as part of a package.
Our functions are at home rather than a venue.
That is the usual setting and it produces better photographs than a hall does. Small spaces work; we move around people rather than asking anyone to move.
Will your equipment survive the haldi?
It is planned for. Getting close to a haldi is the job, and a photographer standing safely at the edge of the courtyard is not doing it.
Do you photograph the preparation before each function?
Yes, if you want it, and it is often the quietest and best part of the day. Tell us and we will arrive early enough for it.
Do you photograph the mehendi artist at work?
Yes, and those frames are among the better ones from that function. The hands, the concentration and the design taking shape all photograph well.
Is video available for the sangeet?
Tell us what you need and we will confirm what is possible for your dates rather than assuming. Sangeet in particular benefits from being planned in advance.
How many people can be in the haldi frames?
As many as are taking part. Haldi photographs best when the frame is full, so there is no reason to hold anyone back for the camera.
Can you cover functions at two different homes?
Yes, which is common when the two families host separately. Send both addresses with the timings so travel between them is planned rather than improvised.
